Podcast of the Week
I’ve just re-listened to the Tim Ferriss podcast with Derek Sivers. Last time when I listened to it I fell in love with the approach of deciding by asking oneself (this one is especially for Warren):
Is it a “Hell YES!”? If it’s not a “Hell Yes!” so it’s a “No”.
This time I really liked:
“You are whatever you pretend to be” — Kurt Vonnegut
So if you want to be confident, choose to be confident even when you have no reason to. Enjoy!
Sleep is Your Superpower
Sleep is Mother Nature’s best effort at immortality, says sleep scientist Matt Walker. In this sleep TED talk, Walker shares the good things that happen when you get enough sleep — and the alarmingly bad things that happen when you don’t, for both your brain and body. Learn more about sleep’s impact on your learning, memory, immune system and even your genetic code — as well as some helpful tips for getting more sleep.
Lack of sleep is will break your immune system, causes cancer, and is linked to dementia (and other horrible things). A new much-watch TED talk from @sleepdiplomat — please spread this far and wide.
For many years overpopulation was the Ur-worry. The idea of too many people on a small planet stood behind common environmental worries from pollution to global warming. While the population of humans will continue to rise for at least 40 more years, trends show that a much bigger existential threat lies in global underpopulation. This is a fantastic article by Kevin Kelly, my favorite futurist.
Quote I Love
Life is not lost by dying; life is lost minute by minute, day by dragging day, in all the small uncaring ways.
